Parent Finders Ottawa
Parent Finders began in 1976 in Vancouver. It quickly spread across Canada.
It is a volunteer run support group and private registry made up of people who believe in the importance of reuniting families separated by adoption.
Our mission was always to "no longer be needed" - that is, that people could access their records or find each other if they so desired.
Since its inception, Parent Finders has worked tirelessly to change old Adoption laws.
Most provinces in Canada now have open records, with some variations. Thousands of Adopted people and their Birth families have searched, and with our support assistance, have found each other as a “right”.
However, after nearly 50 years of promoting changes to provincial adoption disclosure laws and helping people reunite, we are winding down our organization and reducing our services.
We will continue to advise you about the particular province you are dealing with for the next year.
